Around 1996-1997, the era of high speed 56k modems and locally owned ISPs.  Back when AOL reigned supreme and it wasn't Mac vs. PC but VooDoo vs. TNT.  DefCon (Patrick P.) got a job as dial-up tech support at DotSTAR Internet, a small ISP in Pensacola, FL.  There he met a sales associate/web designer, Slothboy (Greg W.).  They both played Quake2 and realized that working at an ISP was the perfect solution to getting that hard to obtain 170 ping!  They cobbled together a simple gaming server and talked their bosses into connecting it directly to the web so they could play from home.  DefCon immidiately talked to his father Falcon and got him to game on the server as well as various others that would become a permanent cast of characters started to show up for the first time.

One of those members was Upuranus, who happened to be one of the largest reasons QaZ was so successful for so long.  Eventually, we all did the natural thing and formed a clan.  When voting on names, there were no serious suggestions and during a chat DefCon threw out QuadAssAssinZ (referencing the quad damage from Quake 1 & 2).  Everyone seemed to be ok with it, and it has stuck to this day.  More History to come.
