This game looks promising enough but I already dumped most of my budget into BFBC2 which I'm having a blast in it's multiplayer beta right now I might add,
Is it as shallow and MW2-like as the gameplay movies make it look?
Well, the class system is similar but it's not like they can make it a RPG and the CoD4 system was originally a step up from the Battlefield 2 system anyways. You level up, earn some new gear, there's 4 classes the more you play one class the better gear you'll have for it. It's pretty standard in terms of that, just makes you feel like you're working towards something but nobody actually buys these games because of the character development. There's perks as well but they're not as ridiculous as some of MW's, it's mostly just increased vehicle armor, larger ammo pack, stuff like that and higher level weapons don't completely overpower lower level ones so you never really feel like you're at a disadvantage because you're underleveled.
Gameplay wise, it's a lot more fun and frantic imo. Definitely more frantic at least. You actually feel like you're fighting a war not 16 people being dropped into an arena and shooting it out. Vehicles have decent handling and play a huge part in the game. My only problem is with the helicopter, the thing is insanely hard to take down it probably won't be a problem in the real game when people can actually use the magnet dart gun but as of right now someone's who's decent at piloting the thing becomes this annoying killing machine. Luckily, most people are pretty bad at it and you can just ignore it and cap the points instead. The destructible environment is what really sets it apart from MW2 though. No longer can you just camp in one place. Tanks, heavy artillery and explosives will tear through buildings, trees and other cover. Strategically wise, it opens up many options and forces you to move around and adjust to the pace. The place actually looks like a battlefield when you're done with it.
And the fact that this game actually supports community and dedicated servers automatically makes it 20% better than MW2 for me.
